I gave unprotected oral sex to a CSW and then had protected vaginal sex...have regreted it ever since. There seems to be conflicting info as to wether you con contract hep via oral sex and I am wondering your thoughts? Is there legit cases of hep b where there wasnt any sex invoved and that are unexplained?
Answer from a medical doctor
Your condom use protects you form acquisition of infection from your protected intercourse. Similarly, I am unaware of any cases in which viral hepatitis B or C has been acquired from oral sex. Hepatitis A has been transmitted through direct and indirect oral-anal contact and hepatitis B has been transmitted by unprotected genital sex but oral sex is not a concern. The oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract is a "hostile" environment for possible invading microorganisms which is full of enzymes and antibodies which act to neutralize any pathogens to which people are exposure. For this reason sexual transmission of these STDs is not a concern. I see no need for testing based on these exposures. EWH
Hi
I know oral sex comes up all the time.
I received oral sex from an Asian massage worker 8 weeks ago.
I have come up negative for all STD's.
I got a negative test for Hep B (looking specifically for the virus)
I have heard different things from different people about the validity of a test at 8 weeks.
I got an email from the hepatitas foundation telling me not to worry about hepatitas b from this exposure.
Do I need to let this go now or do I need to continue paying for more tests?
Hoep you can reassure me as I am going a little crazy!
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the STD forum.
Responding first to the title you selected for your question, before I read anything else: hepatitis B virus (HBV) is rarely if ever transmitted by oral sex.
Now I have read the rest. I agree with your report about the Hepatitis Foundation. There is no known risk here. Had you come to my clinic, we would not have done an HBV test for such an exposure, even if you had insisted on it. In any case, the negative test shows you don't have HBV.
In view of your apparently inflated fears of HBV, I suggest you get vaccinated against it. Then you'll have no worries in the future.

Please assess the Hepatitis (I think just HBV?) risk associated with being rimmed and anally fingered for a couple of minutes with saliva being used as lubricant. I have read contradictory reports regarding the HBV virus in saliva.
Would pre-"fluid" from giving oral sex (no orgasm/ejaculation) be a risk?
thanks very much.
Answer
Of the 3 types of hepatitis, hepatitis C is not much of a concern. Hardly ever transmitted sexually and on the rare occasions when it is, it is most strongly associated with rectal intercourse. Hepatitis A is spread through contact with stool so rimming could occur for the person doing the rimming. Hepatitis B is the main concern for sexually transmitted hepatitis and both genital-genital and ano-genital contact can spread the infection for either participant. The virus is present in both genital secretions (including pre-ejaculatory fluid) and blood. The risk associated with oral sex is less well studied but, as for HIV, the risk from oral sex for either participant appears quite low and lower for the recipient than the person giving sex. The virus may be apresnet in low quantities in saliva but does not survive well in the oral environment and is destroyed by stomach acid.
Hope this helps. EWH
