"We view an association agreement as only the first step toward Ukraine's full membership of the European Union," Poroshenko said in his inaugural speech at the Verkhovna Rada on Saturday.
He said he is ready to sign the second part of the association agreement with the EU concerning the establishment of a free trade area immediately and expects the EU's readiness to do so.
"I think the Ukrainian parliament's position and the Ukrainian people's will provide every precondition for Ukraine to receive an EU membership perspective in the near future, because no one has the right to veto our European choice," he said.
