AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young has been admitted to a full-time nursing home reported The Sydney Morning Herald on Friday, apparently due to dementia. On Wednesday the 61-year-old rhythm guitarist, background vocalist and songwriter announced his retirement from AC/DC, which he founded in 1973. According to a representative of the Young family, Malcolm “has a complete loss of short-term memory.” Reports claim Malcolm Young’s wife Linda put him into care at the Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay. The facility is located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney and specializes in dementia.
Ironically, researchers have been trying to claim that staying musically active, such as playing an instrument, could not only slow the onset of dementia, but also be the key to longevity reported CNN last summer. Yet, there are musicians, such as Malcolm Young, artists and celebrities that suffer, have suffered, and died from brain related illnesses characterized by extreme dementia.
